Five RPGs worth 100 hours, tested on PC
Every entry here cleared a 20-hour minimum playthrough on retail builds, and none of them leaned on live-service hooks to keep you around.

The bar for this list is simple: a retail build, at least twenty hours of play, and no season pass required. Three of the five also survived a post-patch re-run, which is part of how they ended up scored on the rankings.
1. Elden Ring
Still the reference point for open-world pressure. The engine caps at 60 fps and new regions show shader hitches on first load, but neither problem has grown worse across patches. If you only play one game here, play this one.
2. Baldur's Gate 3
The most generous save system in the genre and a third act that holds together on PC better than it did at launch. Co-op works over Steam without third-party accounts.
3. Final Fantasy VII Rebirth
The PS5 port finally came to PC in a state worth buying, though it wants a strong GPU for its 60 fps target. The open-zone structure is lighter than Elden Ring's world, and the combat is the best of the five.
4. Avowed
Smaller in scope and honest about it. Performance is clean on mid-range hardware, and the writing carries stretches where the map thins out.
5. Fallout 4
The oldest entry and still the easiest to recommend at a discount. The next-gen update broke some older mods; check compatibility before you build a load order.
What we did not test
Handheld performance on Steam Deck varies per title and we have not completed full battery runs on any of these. Console versions are out of scope for this site.
