Steam Deck's Verified badge no longer tells you whether to buy
We re-ran 24 games marked Verified. Nine drop below 30 fps on default settings, and three render text too small to read.

Verified meant something in 2022. It promised a game would boot at 1280x800, keep its interface legible, and work with a controller. Four years on, the bar has not moved with the games.
We picked 24 titles marked Verified on the store page and ran each for 30 minutes on the same 512GB LCD unit, the same SteamOS build, default settings. Nine fell below 30 fps at the median. Three rendered interface text small enough that you have to lean in on a 7-inch screen.
The weak point is the word itself. Playable was never quantified. A 28 fps action game and a 28 fps turn-based game feel nothing alike, and they carry the same badge.
So we record three things instead: the 1% low on default settings, the smallest interface font size, and battery drain after 30 minutes. All three go on the game page, and you decide whether they are acceptable.
