GTA 6 preloads start November 10 at 212GB, and PC is still waiting

Rockstar confirmed preload windows and a 212GB install for the November 19 console launch, and a reported Q1 2027 PC release would be the fastest PC port Rockstar has ever done.

Preload and install size, confirmed

Rockstar confirmed the preload plan this week. PS5 players can start downloading at midnight local time on November 10. Xbox players start at 12 a.m. GMT the same day. The install needs at least 212GB of free storage, so the real preparation work this week is deciding what to delete.

Digital buyers can preload from either console store. Physical copies with a download code hit retailers on November 12. The game unlocks on November 19 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S.

One more date worth marking: Take-Two reports quarterly results on November 9, ten days before launch. Release-table updates and platform news tend to surface around earnings, so that call is the most likely place for any surprise.

No PC version exists yet

There is nothing to buy on Steam, Epic, or the Rockstar launcher, and no PC pre-order. Take-Two's fiscal 2027 release table, published in May, lists GTA 6 on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S only for the financial year ending March 31, 2027. CEO Strauss Zelnick has said console comes first because that is where Rockstar's core audience is, while calling PC "more and more important" to the company at the September shareholder meeting.

The specific claim in circulation comes from GamesBeat, which reported on October 13 that Rockstar plans a PC release in the first quarter of 2027, two to four months after console. That report cites four anonymous sources, and neither Rockstar nor Take-Two has confirmed it. Note the friction: a Q1 2027 PC launch would fall inside the same fiscal year where Take-Two's own table lists consoles only. Publishers do leave unannounced versions off investor tables, so this is not a contradiction, but the report is not backed by anything on the record.

How long PC players waited last time

Game Console release PC release Gap
Grand Theft Auto IV April 2008 December 2008 About 8 months
Grand Theft Auto V September 2013 April 2015 About 19 months
Red Dead Redemption 2 October 2018 November 2019 About 13 months
Grand Theft Auto VI November 2026 Not announced 2 to 4 months, if the GamesBeat report holds

Going by pattern alone, PC players would be looking at late 2027 to mid-2028. The GamesBeat window would be the shortest gap Rockstar has ever allowed, and there is a plausible reason behind it: Rockstar acquired Cfx.re in 2023, the team behind the PC-only FiveM roleplay framework that keeps GTA V servers busy. A GTA 6 roleplay scene only exists on PC, and that may be worth more to Rockstar now than it was in 2015.

What PC players can actually do

Nothing native, for now. Cloud streaming is unconfirmed as well, so the only way to play on November 19 is a PS5 or Xbox Series X|S. If a console copy is the plan, preload windows open November 10 and the 212GB requirement applies regardless of platform.

If waiting is the plan, history at least suggests the wait buys something. The PC versions of GTA V and Red Dead Redemption 2 both arrived late and both became the definitive editions. Whether that repeats in early 2027 or drags into 2028, the November 9 earnings call should narrow it down.
